Activity: Conduct a detailed study of Antarctica and find a specific geographical feature that deserves funding for further exploration.
Background: Antarctica, which is roughly the size of the U.S., is the highest, driest, coldest, windiest, and brightest of the seven continents. It is also one of the final frontiers left on Earth to explore.
Value: Students increased their understanding of geography and climate while deepening their knowledge of various research and scientific processes.
Task: The goal was for students to present both a photo and detailed description about the feature they selected and their rationale for choosing it.
Results: A webcast featuring experts on Antarctica reviewed select submissions and offered their own
take on possible solutions.
